AB 2541 – Law Enforcement Training on Wandering
Assembly Bill 2541 (AB 2541) requires POST to develop guidelines for mandatory law enforcement officer training addressing wandering associated with Alzheimer’s disease, autism, and dementia by January 1, 2026.
These guidelines must address the development of law enforcement investigational checklists, protocols for deploying agency resources, including search and rescue dogs, and protocols to develop community awareness campaign for wandering prevention and water safety. The guidelines must also include technological solutions, including wandering prevention devices, proactive registries, and community alert systems, as well as coordination protocols between law enforcement agencies and other agencies, first responders, hospitals, and transportation systems.
