AB 3262—Schools Serving Grades 6-12 Must Notify Pupils of the Location of AEDs
Existing law requires that when an automated external defibrillator (AED) is placed in a public or private K-12 school, the principal of the school must ensure that school administrators and staff annually receive information that describes sudden cardiac arrest, the school’s emergency response plan, the proper use of an AED, and the location of all AED units on the campus. The principal shall also ensure that instructions, in no less than 14-point type, on how to use the AED are posted next to every AED.
Assembly Bill 3262 (AB 3262) requires that when an AED is placed in a public or private school serving grades 6 to 12, inclusive, the principal must notify pupils as to the location of all AED units on the campus at least annually.
(AB 3262 amends section 1797.196 of the Health and Safety Code.)
