New Law Expands Workplace Lactation Accommodation Requirements for Employers

This article provides an in-depth look at SB 142, a bill that significantly expands an employer’s obligation to provide lactation accommodations for employees that was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in late 2019.  Effective January 1, 2020, SB 142 adds to existing law and requires employers to provide a location with outlined requirements and also requires employers to develop and implement a specific lactation accommodation policy.
