Los Angeles Business Journal received over 300 nominations this year, and Geoff and Brian were selected for their dedication to their clients and the overall success of LCW as a firm. There were 75 litigators named to the list.

“Having litigated cases with Geoff, I know firsthand what a superb litigator he is, although his results speak for themselves,” said J. Scott Tiedemann, Managing Partner of LCW. “He doesn’t miss a thing.”

“Brian is an excellent trial attorney.  Clients always feel confident that they’ve received the best possible defense,” continued Tiedemann. “As Chair of our Litigation Practice Group, Brian has also significantly advanced our Firm’s overall litigation practice, especially developing excellent new litigators.”

Geoffrey S. Sheldon is the Chair of LCW’s Public Safety Practice Group and is one of the Firm’s most seasoned litigators. In addition to his litigation practice, Geoff regularly provides advice and counsel and representation to the Firm’s clients on a wide array of matters, including matters involving the Peace Officers Bill of Rights Act, the Firefighters Bill of Rights Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, amongst others. Geoff’s litigation practice extends to handling federal and state writs, injunctions and appeals.  He has successfully argued cases in front of the California Court of Appeal, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court.  As a member of Litigation Practice Group Executive Committee, Geoff helps establish the Firm’s litigation policies and best practices. Geoff also routinely assists public agency clients and law enforcement and fire service executive associations with matters such as personnel management, investigations and discipline, unfair labor practices, grievances, medical and other types of leaves of absence, fitness for duty and disability accommodation, and public safety retirement issues.

Brian P. Walter has handled class actions and collective actions in federal and state courts. He has extensive experience handling FLSA issues and representing law enforcement agencies, including successfully defending employee discipline matters for sworn and civilian law enforcement personnel. Brian has written amicus briefs on behalf of public employer organizations to the Third Circuit, Ninth Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court. He has litigated dozens of collective actions in federal court through all stages of litigation, including four jury trials, three bench trials and several appeals.  Brian is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Thompson Publishing Group’s Fair Labor Standards Handbook For States, Local Governments & Schools and regularly contributes to that publication.  Brian has also authored many publications regarding FLSA issues, including the firm’s FLSA Public Sector Compliance Guide and the CPER Pocket Guide to the FLSA.
