SB 1207 – Buy Clean California Act Eligible Materials Re-Defined

CATEGORY: Client Update for Public Agencies, Fire Watch, Law Enforcement Briefing Room
CLIENT TYPE: Public Employers, Public Safety
DATE: Oct 23, 2024

The Buy Clean California Act requires that state agencies, the Regents of the University of California and the Trustees of the California State University strive to achieve a continuous reduction of emissions over time. It mandates contractors bidding on public projects that require eligible materials to disclose data about the embodied carbon.

Existing law defines “eligible materials” for those purposes to mean carbon steel rebar, flat glass, mineral wool board insulation, or structural steel. Senate Bill 1207 amends the definition of “eligible materials” to replace mineral wool board insulation with insulation.

(SB 1207 amends section 3501 of the Public Contract Code)
